The precursor of slow waltz is Boston waltz, a dance which was imported from the United States and appeared in England around 1874. After WWI, slow waltz took an upsurge, improving its movements and raising the number of figures, which were standardized by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD). Salient features of this dance are the rise and fall movements while stepping. The accent in this dance (danced on music in ¾) is on the first bar, and the tempo is 29 -30 measures / minute.
