This dance was born in the ‘20s and took the name of an American dancer, Harry Fox. It was originally danced in a 48 measures a minute tempo but later on split into two versions: one quick, that led to quickstep, with a tempo of 50 – 52 measures a minute, and a second one, slower (slowfox), with a tempo of 32 measures per minute.
During slowfox, while stepping, the dancers rise and fall differently from the Viennese or slow waltz, at the end of a musical measure. Stepping is thus made either naturally, on the floor, or on toes. Other characteristics are the left – right sways, depending on the side on which the body is bent) and the feather steps.
The measure of this dance is 4/4 and the tempo is 29 – 30 measures per minute.
