Bachata originates from the rural parts of the Dominican Republic. The subject of the songs is usually romantic, especially from sad love stories. The dance is sensual, with the partners standing very close to each other.
In 2006, AVENTURA, a Dominican band currently living in New York, became the most famous bachata band with their hit Obsession. Among the famous bachata singers, let me mention Raulin Rodriguez, Zacarias Ferreira, Frank Reyes, Monchy y Alexandra, Domenic Marte, Xtreme, Elvis Martinez, Leonardo Paniagua, Los Toros Band and Joe Veras.
